Raphael Francisquetti wins first WPT Brasil; WPT off to Borgata!

By Mad Harper

The first-ever WPT event in South America wrapped up this week with Brazilian player Raphael Francisquetti winning on home soil. The $475 buy-in WPT Brasil attracted 3,386 entries creating a prize pool of over $1.2 million. It was Francisquetti’s only recorded live cash to date.

The next WPT is the WPT Borgata Open from September 5 to 22 followed by WPT Maryland Live! from September 30 to October 4.

Following the huge success of its debut event in Brasil, the WPT now heads off to far more familiar territory: the Borgata Open in Atlantic City. The prestigious WPT Borgata Open runs from September 5 to 22 with a packed schedule featuring 21 different tournaments.

The highlight of the festival is the six-day WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship running from September 17-22, where for a $3,500 buy-in players will be competing for at least a $3 million guaranteed prize pool.

The WPT Borgata Open kicks off with a very tempting event: the $600 WPT Borgata Deepstack Kick-Off has six start flights from September 5-7 and comes with a $2 million guarantee. Other big guarantees include the Almighty Stack with a $400 buy-in, five start flights and $1 million guarantee.

American pro Daniel Weinman won the record-breaking WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open last February, celebrating his 29th birthday with a monster cash of $892,433. Jesse Sylvia won last September’s Borgata Open, beating a 1,179-entry field for $821,811.

WPT Maryland Live! also takes place next month, with a Main Event starting September 22 in Hanover.
