Irish Open Day 1a in the bag

By Mad Harper

Day 1a is done and dusted at the 2017 Irish Poker Open Main Event, with 367 entries in total. The field for the €500k guarantee tournament is set to be massively boosted by today’s entries.

There’s still time to join the craic in Dublin! You can book your accommodation direct with MainEventTravel.

There were 174 survivors last night including Barcelona PokerStars Cup winner Mahmood Rasheed who is leading with 200,100 along with Michael McIneerney (194,600), Felix Lambertz (184,300) and Marc Macdonnell (176,900).  Other notables who’ve made it through to Day 2 include WSOP November Niner Griffin Benger (115,700), local hero Kevin Killeen, fresh off yesterday’s High Roller win, on 25,400.

Also back tomorrow are UKIPT Dublin winner Max Silver (46,000), Andy Black (58,000), London stalwart Willie Tann (15,100), Irish poker legend Padraig Parkinson (19,600), American pro Elena Stover (18,900) and Marty Smyth (14,500). Unibet Ambassador Dara O’Kearney is also  still in after firing a second bullet.

Among those who competed yesterday were former Irish Open champions Ian Simpson, EPT founder and new partypoker LIVE President John Duthie, MainEventTravel’s MD Fraser MacIntyre and EPT London winner David Vamplew.

Here's Fraser's arrival at CityWest at the start of Day 1a.

Last year Irish player Dan Wilson took down the Main Event for €150,000 after beating a giant field of 802 players generating a €801,500 prize pool. A €500,000 guarantee, legendary atmosphere –  and popular Shuffleboard outside the main tournament area –  make this a really unmissable event. The Irish Open is and one of the world’s most prestigious and lively poker festivals.
