As one of two Norwegians in the field when the 2023 WSOPC Tallinn Event #8 €1,100 PLO 4&5 started in a field dominated by Finnish players Jon Kyte might have been outnumbered but experience-wise, he surely wasn't. With over one million euros in tournament winnings and €226,505 so far this year he already had proven himself to be one of the names to keep an eye out on. And taking advantage of having one of the biggest stacks on the bubble as we reached the last 18 players left off the field he never looked back and didn't give away that lead until they were heads-up for the circuit ring even if it was just for one hand before he took it back and then eliminated his last opponent taking home the first prize of €34,780 the glorious golden WSOPC ring along with it. 

The Land of the Mumin Trolls Dominated the Field 

As the tournament started at noon the field wasn't even up to 20 players but after the first break, we had almost 100 entries in the field and landed on 143 in total. We described it as "High Chaparral" for the first ten levels of the tournament as players were tossing their chips around all the time and plenty of them fired a second or a third bullet in this €1,100 PLO/PLO5. But Jon Kyte wasn't one of them as he took his seat in a satellite the night before and only paid €60 to enter the tournament. During the satellite, he took a massage and as it was finished he asked the masseuse if she wanted to have 5% in him in the tournament instead of him paying for it and she said yes. 

During the final table yesterday we saw her rooting for him all the way and as he won she was probably the loudest voice of them all cheering for his win as she ended up getting €1,739 for her percent in the Norwegian and probably could take the rest of the week off. 

Outnumbered Maybe But This Was Kyte's Day

To say Kyte was outnumbered is not an understatement with 85 players in total from the land of the Mumin trolls and luxurious designs - Finland giving us a prize pool of €137,280 to play for. 

Down to the last three tables, the players started to smell the scent of the money with 17 getting paid at least €2,250 for their efforts, and the very last player to bust before the money was Mohammed Halafi who was eliminated by Kyte in a round of five cards Omaha getting his money in on the flop with top pair which was in huge favour for Kyte who both had an open-ended straight flush draw and two pair. The turn gave Kyte the straight and sent his opponent to the rail as he started his journey toward that golden ring and after that, he never looked back. 

Huge Lead Going Into the Final Table 

After eliminating Kai Lehto in 12th Kyte was the first player with over a million in chips and when they reached the final table he had one million more than Janne Peltoniemi in second place. When the final started we had six out of the eight from Finland but the Kyle machinery continued his strike eliminating the first player as we reached the final as he busted Matias Knaapinen in eighth place (€4,700).

The final table started well for our Estonian Igor Pihela Jr. as he first sent the well-renowned Juha Helppi to the rail for a seventh-place finish worth €5,850. The odds got even worse having a Finnish victory when he took out Olli Kokko in sixth place (€7,200). But down to the final five players, it started to go downhill for Pihela and after losing several big hands he was eliminated by Janne Peltoinemi for a €9,000 payday. 

The play would go on for more than an hour with the four remaining players and by now Finland actually were three against the one Norwegian so could it finally be a victory for the Finns who's been so, so close in several events but always fell on the target string. In event #4 Deuce to Seven Triple Draw they had five out of the seven at the final table but had to see themselves beaten as Martin Rafael Lategui Lourido from Cyprus walked away with the golden ring. 

This was really the day of Jon Kyte from start to finish at the final table even if it would take a little over 16 hours from start to finish and three hours on the final table only. After eliminating Janne Peltoniemi in fourth place (€11,800), and Jari Petteri Kalenius in third (€15,950) he was in the lead as we reached heads-up between Kyte and Olli Rummukainen. This was the first time at the final table that Kyte actually would give away his lead but that only lasted one hand before he took it back and the hand after that it was all over and he had eliminated yet another Finn earning himself that WSOP Circuit golden ring here in event #8 here in Tallinn.

With almost 80 percent Finns in this tournament the odds surely was in the blue and white nations favor but as we were down to the final eight players it was domination nation for Norway all the way through the end as Jon Kyte took home the eight WSOPC golden ring here at Olympic Casino and Hilton Park after more than 16 hours of play. 

A huge congratulations to Kyte who walks away with €34,780 for his efforts.

Another three-way pot involving Jon Kyte and two other players, one of them being Mohammed Halafi who defended Kyte's raise to 30,000 from the big blind. With only 90,000 chips left behind Halafi announced he was all-in on the flop, followed by a snap call from Kyte.

Two action hands in a row for Ken Okada. On the first hand he managed to double up with against Jon Kyte's his Aces won over the hand and he doubled to Almost 200,000 chips.

Next hand Okada raised 15,000 from an early position, followed by a call from Markku Koplimaa and Jose Koistinen.

We had a three-way flop, Okada bet 30,000 and Koplimaa jammed it all in. Okada snap called and we went to showdown.

As we've previously mentioned it's been a pretty crazy day until the registration closed where it's been hard to keep track of all the action. And to be honest a chip leader could easily be heading out the door a few hands later. 

This could almost be called the Finnish Championship with the majority of Finns in the field. If the former EPT media coordinator Mad Harper had been here we would have been giving you a pretty fun pie chart of it all but 95 of the entries had a Finnish flag of the total 143 so you could do the math yourselves. But the chances of a blue and white player finally taking it down (after being very close in several events) look good since 22 out the 32 remaining players are from Finland. But let's not take anything in advance since they had five out of the finalists in yesterday's 8-game final and didn't get all the way there but let's hope they'll do better this time. 

A few of the most familiar faces in the field are Juha Helppi, Ilari Sahamies, Mikael Gronvik, Kimmo Kurko, Igor Pihela Sr, and Ken Okada.

There's been a huge shift when it comes to the action around the tables since the registration closed. The former "High Chaparral" we had earlier has turned into a more careful way of play. The total prize pool is now announced with €137,280 but we haven't got our hands on the payouts yet but will get back to you as soon as they are announced.

The latter one is what seems to be the case for many of the Finns in the field as they not only dominate the list of players bought into the event. They also dominate the list of eliminations and second (maybe even third) bullets.

As this is a single-day event with the possibility to re-enter if you're up for it there's already been a lot of players eliminated from the field. Who's willing to put up another €1,100 to take a second bullet is for the future to decide but as we've earlier mentioned they have until the end of the dinner break to decide if they wanna join or not in this fantastic form of the game of poker. 

It's safe to say that four and five-card PLO is a favorite for our Finnish players since more than half the field comes from Finland. Aki Pyysing, Ilari Sahamies, and Juha Helppi we'd say are the most notable players among those.

After mostly No-Limit Hold'em tournaments in our coverage we're mixing it up today with some four and five cards Pot Limit Omaha in event #8 of the 2023 WCOPC Tallinn. The players can still buy in until the end of level ten which always makes the fields small in the beginning as poker players love to sleep in as we're all aware of. 

When the cards were in the air right after noon today the field surely looked a bit sparse but before the first level started we were up to 44 players (of which 27 of them were Finns). Another hour or so players kept dropping in and during the first break of the day, we were up to almost 80 players. 

As we start the coverage from the tournament now the field is already up to 105 players and probably go even further before the registration closes. At 6.40 pm the players will go on dinner break and after they're done eating we're starting the live stream here from Tallinn from this event and you can follow it all the way through until we have a lucky winner of yet another golden WSOPC ring.
