Congrats to Haapaniemi for his sixth-place finish for €19,300 and his solid poker throughout the event. The flop would have improved Gross to two pair if he stuck around. Of course, it was an easy fold. Meanwhile, Tammel had thin hope with a back door flush draw. The back door opened to a front door on the
turn to give both Velvelt and Tammel a sweat.
However, the blank completed the board to double Velvelt into the chip lead after winning the biggest pot thus far in the Main Event and kill Tammel's early momentum. Tapio Altonen came into today with just six big blinds and a plan to do something within the next orbit and a half. The action came around to him in the big blind and he thought for a few minutes after Tarmo Tammel min-raised the button. Aaltonen eventually jammed for 285,000 and Tammel snap-called.
Tapio Altonen:
Tarmo Tammel:
Aaltonen's cards were live but his odds decreased after Tammel improved to top pair on the flop.
"Jack," Aaltonen was rooting for as this would have completed a gutshot to Broadway. However, Aaltonen was unable to improve on the turn and
river and bubbled the final table. He didn't walk away empty-handed as he did collect the 10th place prize of €6,300.
Despite his dreams being crushed, Aaltonen showed tons of sportsmanship with hugs and handshakes to his opponents and rail after an impressive 3+ days of poker.
