Wu leads final 20 at GUKPT Edinburgh

By Mad Harper

Scottish player and former Edinburgh runner-up Colin Wu has a massive lead for the final day of this year’s GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event with double the stack of any other player.

Not long to wait for the next GUKPT: the £100k guarantee GUKPT Walsall takes place April 23-30 with GUKPT Reading from May 21-28. UK poker stars of the future will be competing at the Grosvenor UK Student Poker Championship from April 18-23 and the Easter Beast takes place April 12-17.

Wu has already had huge success on the tour: as well as his runner-up finish in Edinburgh two years ago, he won the GUKPT Tournament of Champions in 2009 after taking down the London event. He has also made the final at several other GUKPT Main Events. With close to $300k in live tournament winnings already, will looking for a career-best cash today. He came to the UK 16 years ago to complete an MBA in International Business Transactions and now lives in Dundee where he runs a Chinese takeaway shop.

Day 2 had a fast and furious start then eased up near the end as the event played hand for hand for an hour. Gianluigi Floris was the unlucky bubble boy. All remaining 20 players are guaranteed at least £1,140 with £32,450 for the winner. Sin Melin is the last woman standing, currently fifth with 302,000. Last year’s champion Tommy Le is also still in with 113,500. There were 227 entries in total, smashing the guarantee with a prize pool of £113,500.

MainEventTravel.com now sponsors GUKPT’s all-in triangles so look out for them on the live stream from Edinburgh. We’re the tour’s Official Travel Partner so let us help you find great accommodation for each and every stop of the 2017 GUKPT tour.

2017 is the GUKPT’s 11th consecutive season and promises to provide another record breaking year with a packed schedule and £1.8 million in Main and Mini Main guarantees. There will be nine legs in total this year before the GUKPT Grand Final takes place at The Poker Room above the iconic Grosvenor Victoria Casino in London in November.
