Vegas Hero Euan McNicholas sets sights on Goliath

With the 2023 World Series drawing to a close, it’s time to celebrate one of the most successful British players at this year’s Series, Grosvenor Ambassador Euan McNicholas.

McNicholas’s (pictured) achievements this year have gone under-recognised for sure, but the 24-year-old from London racked up an astonishing 14 WSOP cashes during his time in Vegas. Three of those WSOP tournaments were held online but his deep runs also included a very respectable $17,500 score in the record-breaking Main Event and 36th place – out of 642 entries – in the $10k Super Turbo Bounty for a total of $38,594. His 11 cashes in live tournaments also put him firmly in the top ten for this year’s WSOP players under 30 years old.

McNicholas began his Vegas onslaught at the end of May and played every single day at the start of the Series. His results reflect the hard work he put in with a phenomenal hit rate of eight cashes in the first week alone. His biggest cash came in the $10k Super Turbo Bounty when he finished 36th for $20,594 – plus another $18k won in bounties for busting six players. That event also brought about his favourite moment of the Series when he found himself sitting with Phil Ivey on his right and Phil Hellmuth on his left.

He said: “That was pretty cool. It’s also been great to spend time with Grosvenor’s Road to Vegas qualifiers. More than 25 Grosvenor players won an incredible £4,000 trip to Vegas this summer in the “Road to Vegas” promotion – and playing the Mini Main with everyone was awesome. I hope they all had a great time.”

McNicholas burst on to the poker scene in 2021 with a massive score at GUKPT London (pictured on GUKPT London Final Table above). That £165,800 victory – plus winning one of the special online GUKPT Main Events – helped land him the 2021 National Poker League Player of the Year title and a £20k Grosvenor sponsorship deal. He has been a member of Team Grosvenor ever since.

Now, with Vegas done and thoroughly dusted, McNicholas (with teammates Katie Swift, Rick Trigg, and Jamie Nixon above) has his sights set on Coventry and Grosvenor’s annual Goliath extravaganza which starts on July 27.

McNicholas’s Vegas haul totals nearly $80k but his biggest single cash remains his victory at GUKPT London two years ago. He won £165,800 after outlasting a gigantic field of 804 entries in his first ever live GUKPT. His total live winnings now total more than $530k. 

This year’s Goliath festival is taking place from July 27 to August 6 at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the Midlands and is, once again, set to break records.

Last year’s Goliath attracted a staggering field of 10,584 entries to create a £1,219,270 prize pool. The event was won by Kyle Jeffrey for a monster prize of £200,000, by far the biggest first prize in Goliath history.

This year’s Goliath promises to be the biggest y­­­­et with organisers confidently predicting a prize pool of over £1.5 million. This will be the 11th edition of the live event and organisers are expecting entries to top 12,000.
